EB-4: It Takes a Team

Form your Teams

Today we’ll focus on teams, so let’s start by forming a team! Find 3-5 people to complete this session. There’s a lot to say about teams, but we’ll start by focusing on interviewing with this badge .All required materials are available on this website.

People are So Important

A common misconception is that business is all about money.  Money is important, but what is much more important is the people running the business.

When adding people to a business, it’s important to make sure the people you add can help the business grow and run smoothly.  When you’re considering someone, do they have:

  • Knowledge or skills that will help the company?
  • A record of working diligently for their employers?
  • An ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively?
  • Persistence to keep trying even when frustrated?
  • Good principles and a record of honest behavior?

An interview remains the most important tool when deciding who to hire, or for getting yourself hired, if you’re the one looking.

Activity: Do an Interview – 30 minutes

You will take turns being the interviewer and being the interviewee for a position with the Bird Food Express service. We’ll call the position “account manager”, and their job is to ensure that their clients are satisfied. And in this small company, account managers actually deliver the bird food to the clients. Take 5 minutes to review the instructions, then take 10 minutes for each turn.

Activity: Fair or Not Fair – 15 minutes

As a group, take 15 minutes to explore what questions are fair game in an interview, and what questions are out of bounds, or even illegal.

Take the Test!

Each person in your group should take their own copy of the test (but you can help each other as you do!).
